Instead of 100 lashes: Qatar drops
A court in Qatar has dropped the procedure against a Mexican employee of the World Cup Organizing Committee, which threatened a punishment of 100 lashes and seven years imprisonment due to extramoric sexual intercourse.
The case had taken care of animals internationally.
According to human rights organizations, a condemnation would have stopped many women from a visit to the World Cup starting in November.
The 28-year-old Paola Scheietkat showed a rape in June 2021.
However, the supposed perpetrator claimed to be in a relationship with the Mexican woman, whereupon against Schützekat was determined for exempt sexual intercourse.
According to the Mexican government, these investigations have now ended.
Schietekat had left the country months ago.
