Warning: Complete spoilers in advance

The days that have passed since the launch of The Last of Us Part 2 have passed, but the controversial history of apocalyptic action-adventure has remained a hot topic among the community of players. The players remain divided on the fate of certain characters, including what many thought that Elie was found with a horribly unsatisfactory conclusion. Surprisingly, the creative director Neil Druckmann and the Narrative Halley Gross official recently spoke about the original plans for the end of the game.

Gross first revealed the differences in the script when arriving on board:

_ When I signed, many things were very similar. We did a lot of iterations on what this last act looked like, but the last beat was that Elie would kill Abby. By mid-way of production, we changed this and Ellie released taken at the last second for (illustrate) that a small part of the old Ellie, the Ellie with humanity, the Ellie who is affected By Joel, still exists within this character who has been so exceeded by his quest for revenge. _

Druckman continued:

_ Leaving Abby live felt badly about the thematic level. But at the end of the day, it was more honest for the character. The theme (and) What we are trying to say has changed a little, but our absolute priority is always to be honest with the character? There are some things we are trying to touch, but they can only work if we are consistent with the character we are writing. _

It’s hard not to imagine that if Druckman places his initial plans, The Last of Us Part 2 would not be sitting with a score of 5.5 users on Metacritic.
